How I Organize My Fabrics

Hi. My name is Katy and I am a fabric a-holic. I see cute fabric prints and I buy them. Most of them are for my etsy shop but some are just for fun! I have discovered an absolutely fab-u-lous way to organize all of my fabrics {well, at least the larger pieces - not including all of my scraps... that will come in another post!}. Since I know many of you are crafters yourselves, I thought I would share my system with you!

Here is a view inside my two tall cabinets. They are from IKEA
{but I couldn't tell you which one, and I couldn't find it on their website. Friends of ours who were moving across country gave them to us}.

The left cabinet is dedicated to finished products. It holds most of my KdBuggie Boutique merchandise.  The right cabinet is dedicated solely to fabric supplies! I used this fantastic tutorial to create my mini fabric bolts. It requires foam poster board, a rotary cutter and a ruler. It is super simple, fast, and makes a dramatic difference! Now at a glance I can see every print of fabric that I have in stock. When a customer asks for a particular print, I can know immediately if I have it!

My super large pieces of fabrics don't fit on a mini bolt, so I keep them folded neatly on one shelf {the second one}. These fabrics are for home decor projects, and stuff for me!

Here are a couple more close-up views:

I just love when people come over and they want to see my craft room. They open the doors and voila! Totally organized! It makes my life easier and just makes me happy to see it!

Do I have a fabric collecting problem? Yes. BUT, is it organized? YES!

How do you keep your crafting supplies neat and organized? I would love to hear! Feel free to link to your own organizing posts in the comments!

  2. omg...this looks awesome Katy! I'm going to have to borrow your idea. My fabrics are all thrown in a big bin with no organization what-so-ever! I've been trying to figure out how I was going to organize it. I also love the idea of the foam board too. Thanks so much!
