About Me

I am a stay at home mommy to the four best kids in the world: a smart and talented 11 year-old daughter, a rambunctious 9 year-old son (who has a sensory processing disorder), a lovable 6 year-old daughter, and a spunky 4 year old son! They definitely keep me busy, but I try and find some time to craft and sew whenever I can! I also love to dabble in photography... so you will likely see some photos of my kiddos (consider yourself warned!).

Naturally Creative Mama is a place for me to share all the crafts I do, the projects I create, the recipes we eat and try, and tips and tricks that I learn in the hopes that it might help you as well. We learn best from each other so why not share what I learn here! I don't strive for a Pinterest worthy life, I try to keep things simple while still being fun!

I opened my own Etsy Shop in February of 2010 and in one year had more than 300 sales! I am so thankful for everyone who supports both my business and my blog! They are two of the ways that I can let some of my creativity shine!

Here are a couple FAQ's for you to get to know me a little better:

Q: How do you do it all?
A: I have a wonderful husband who is by far my biggest supporter. He listens to all my hair-brained ideas and lovingly smiles back at me {even though sometimes I think he really isn't even listening}. Since my daughter is now in 1st grade the kids go to bed early which allows me some creative time at night. My extended family will babysit from time to time giving me a chance to "work".

Q: What kind of sewing machine do you have?
A: I have a Brother sewing and embroidery machine. I love it! The sewing features by far out number the ones I had on my disposable Singer machine. The embroidery is fun, but only does up to 4" square so it is limited. I don't embroider too often, but it's fun to have!! I also have a Brother 1034D serger. To say I love it would be an understatement. We may be at war with each other half the time, but the other half I would use it on everything if I could! I also recently purchased a Brother PE770 Embroidery Machine. LOVE it!!! I also own a Janome Convertsitch machine that is great when I'm sewing up clothing for me and my family.

Q: Who taught you to sew?
A: I learned the basics from my mom at a young age. But a lot of what I do now I have learned through trial and error. My mom gave me what I needed to know. I wish I could say I took sewing lessons or went to design school, but I didn't. A lot of the time I make up my own ways of doing things. Not everything turns out picture perfect -- especially when I make up my own patterns -- but that's what makes it so fun!

Q: What is one word that describes you?
A: If there was one word to describe me it would be persistent! I won't give up until I figure something out. Whether it is learning to use my dad's wood router, hanging shelves, installing base boards, creating clothing patterns, or caulking the bathtub I don't stop until I get it right

Q: Did you go to college?
A: Yep. I received a BA in Liberal Studies and almost completed my Teaching Credentials for Elementary Education. Why didn't I finish? My son has life-threatening food allergies and the thought of losing him to peanuts, eggs, or milk in day care while I was student teaching was heart-wrenching. I completed ALL of my coursework and was 2 student teaching semesters shy of my credentials. My family comes FIRST! As much as I wish I could have completed it, I wouldn't trade this time with my kids for anything. I know my son is safe and alive and that's what matters most to me!
