A New Year and A New Focus

Just like most of the world, on New Years Day I like to sit and set some goals for the new year. We have family goals and personal goals. This year I am doing something a little different.

This isn't a new concept, and it definitely isn't one that I've come up with on my own, but it's one that I'm taking on for the first time in 2020.

This year I have decided to define a clear focus. My word of the year is "BUILD". First off, if the concept of a word of the year is a new one for you, let me explain.

Most years I set goals, I write them down in my journal, and then I totally forget about them. It ends up as a sort of brain dump rather than actual goals... and that was NOT what I had intended. At the end of the year when I look over the goals I made 12 months prior I get sad and start to beat myself up inside (as most of us do) when we feel like we haven't accomplished anything. I am so tired of doing that year after year. It is time for a change.

This year I thought long and hard about an overarching theme that I want to focus on for 2020. I tossed around lots of ideas and gave it some real, serious thought. (Which is what I highly recommend.) I didn't want to just jump in with any word. I wanted my word to really mean something to me, and be one that I could really work towards keeping in mind all year long. To me this word is BUILD.

So, why choose this word? Well, for one thing, this simple word conveys SO MUCH meaning.

It can mean to create something from nothing.

It can mean to improve.

It can mean to add on.

It can mean to strengthen.

Building means that you need to formulate a plan and then act on that plan.

You can build something physically, mentally, spiritually, or build on a relationship.

For me, I am in desperate need for a little bit of all of the above. I hope to share my journey this year here on my blog. I'd love for you to follow along with me and share your journey too! I created a special Facebook Page called Naturally Creative Life.
