They whine, they fight, they're hungry, they're bored, they don't want to go, their feet hurt, someone poked them, "they're looking at me"... and so on. Today I had to take my kiddos out for a quick errand, so I thought I'd make something fun for them to do while I shop.

Do I Really Have to Go? Printable BINGO Cards
7.14.2020
Tell me I am not the only one who dreads taking kids out to run errands.... I love spending time with my children, don't get me wrong, but for some reason, the second we get out in public they turn in to different little people.

Kids Photo Book Tips, Ideas, and Cheat Sheet
10.08.2018
Kids grow up so fast, don't they? It seems like just yesterday I was bringing our oldest child (now 11 years old) home from the hospital, earning what it was like to function on no sleep, take care of a newborn, and work (yes, I had to work too!). Back when I only had two kids, or even three kids, I had more time to spend with them and came up with some pretty creative ideas!
I was looking through some old photos the other day and found this mosaic of photos I had taken:

Rustic DIY Decor - How to Age Wood Projects
9.05.2017
If you are like me you are hoping to get some little rustic odds and ends into your home décor without breaking the bank. Am I right?
I have been watching Fixer Upper (who hasn't) and my favorite bloggers on YouTube (Shanty2Chic) and decided that I needed some flower blossom stems in my home. BUT, as much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE the recycled glass vases that you see those stems in, it just isn't functional in my home. With four kiddos (10 and under) I need something that is a little more durable than a big glass vase.
So, I thought about it and decided that I was going to raid our wood scrap stash and build a vase (really, it's just a long skinny box without a lid) for my plum blossom stems. I wanted a rustic look to it though, so I came up with this way to get what I was wanting. The best part was, the only thing I spent any money on was the stems themselves (from World Market). Everything else I already had on hand.

Creating a Mini Photo Memory Book
5.27.2016
Today my grandma is celebrating her 89th birthday! She is healthy, and may just live forever -- and I am so thankful for that!
When it comes to Christmas and Birthdays, her philosophy about gift giving is simple: "If I can't eat it, watch it, or plant it, I don't need it." Usually we give her a gift card to her favorite restaurant, but this year I decided to do something a little different.
We all know that as grandparents, and great-grandparents get older their memories start to fade. Not ALL people, but some. To help preserve some of those memories, I put together a memory book for her. My kids helped by giving me quotes about whey they love G.G. (great-grandma), and drew pictures for her. I included memories I have from time spent with her over my 35 years. Just quick thoughts about things I enjoyed doing with her, vacations we went on, and things she taught me.
I put together 89 pages of pictures, memories, drawings, and quotes... one for each year of her life.
It was really simple to do, and honestly you can get as creative (or not) as you want. Here is what you need:

Craft Room Renovation Plans
5.04.2012
The only thing I am asking for this Mother's Day is a new work space in my craft room. What I have now works ok, but I would love, LOVE, LOVE to have something that could be a little more functional {especially with a new baby in the house}.
Here's what I have come up with:
This is just one wall in my craft space. BUT since it is the only wall with no windows, it makes the most sense to put the bulk of my storage and workspace here! I created these plans using 2 of the white Billy Bookcases {15" depth} from IKEA. I am hoping to talk the hubby into just buying these versus trying to make our own -- since these are already painted -- hehe!!

... and because I can't just leave it that way, I added some color!

They create the fabric and finished product storage for me. Since I am going to be storing BOLTS of fabric in the bottom of each one, I will have 4 extra shelves {that will be taken out to make room for the bolts}.
With my hubby's know-how and the extra shelves, I my hubby will build a smaller half shelf to store other supplies {scrapbooking, flowers, etc.} on the right of the second bookshelf. IKEA doesn't sell 15" deep smaller bookshelves, but since I will have extra shelves we will just create our own. ♥
Then... my favorite part.... the workbench!! I have been keeping my cutting mat on the floor in my craft space. Which, up until about now, has been totally fine. BUT, with my big 'ole pregnant belly I am finding it just a tad tricky to get up and down off the floor, not to mention maneuver around to trim and pin fabric.
So, the hubs is going to build me a workbench for me to keep my cutting mat on. I would love to have the back end {the side where there are no bookcases} to hang over the edge far enough that the kids could pull chairs up and use it as a craft/homework area for them too.
Did you notice the hanging storage?? I am hoping to get something like this from IKEA.
or this
to use for holding my scissors, pins, rotary cutters, rulers, fabric pens, etc.. That way it is all within reach of where I need it for pinning and cutting fabric. PLUS, the underneath of my workbench will be mostly open {debating about adding a small storage space} so that I could pull up a chair to work there too!
On the opposite wall from the workbench {across my craft room} is my sewing desk. I am working to make the opening between the edge of my desk and the edge of my workbench small enough to be able to put up a baby gate... to keep little hands and toys out of it. I share a HUGE room with the kids. It is our office/craft room/playroom.
This weekend we are hoping to go out and do some shopping to start the project. PLUS finish installing the baseboards here in this great room. Wish us luck!!!
I will absolutely post progress pictures once we get started. I am sooooo excited!!!
What are you up to this weekend? Have you ever done a MAJOR renovation like this?!
