Cooking Tip: Make Your Own Shredded Lettuce

Looking for the Pizzazzing You giveaway!? It ends tomorrow... so get those entries in!

We have taco night at our house once a week. It used to be on Tuesdays, but now it can be any day. BUT, what are really good tacos without shredded lettuce!?? They are just good. With rising gas prices and and higher prices at the grocery store {which I still call the "market"} the price of lettuce and particularly shredded lettuce has gone up!

So, here's a "won't break the bank" way to make your own shredded lettuce.

You start with a head of your lettuce of choice. Iceberg, romaine, kale, etc. Separate 1 leaf.

{It will still work even if it looks like mine } Then you grab one end and roll it up. It doesn't have to be too tight. If you roll too tightly you may break your leaf!

Then take a sharp straight edge knife {not a serrated one} and slice through your rolled up lettuce.

When you are done, it will look like this.

Fluff it up a bit, and there you have it! 1 leaf is enough lettuce for about 3-4 tacos. So, if you need more, rinse and repeat! :)

Doesn't this look yummy!!! A head of iceberg lettuce in my shop is about $1. So, use a couple leaves for shredded lettuce, use the rest for a yummy salad!

Add shredded lettuce to tacos, nachos, sandwiches, salads, pizza {yes, I said pizza... it's great on a BBQ chicken pizza!} and much more! Enjoy!
